Ship operators are advised to test their shipbourne LRIT equipment as soon as possible.
LRIT Equipment Conformance Testing
| All shipborne LRIT equipment must be tested and certified by an Authorised Testing ASP appointed by your Flag. Authorised Testing ASPs will also, on behalf of the Flag, be able to issue LRIT Conformance Test Reports (certificates) for terminals that pass the test. LRIT Conformance Test Reports (certificates) for LRIT terminals will be required for radio surveys and inspection from 31 December 2008. You should arrange to test your equipment as soon as possible. We provide a web based system for the conformance test where ship owners can have their own account. With this account you can initiate tests at any time and review the progress and status of your tests. The system provides error messages and suggests corrective action on failed equipment. Once you initiate your tests Pole Star's system then manages all aspects of the test, including: terminal commissioning, satellite communications network management, post-test de-commissioning, production of a detailed test result and provision of a LRIT Conformance Test Report (certificate) if required. Testing of shipbourne Inmarsat C equipment began in July 2008 and we have conducted over 20,000 tests since then. Additionally, Pole Star now also offers LRIT conformance testing on both the Inmarsat and Iridium networks as well. Ship operators who test their LRIT terminals with Pole Star will also be offered a free trial of our commercial Fleet Management product. Please note: We have been provided with advice regarding the suitability of certain existing equipment for LRIT. Why test now?top of page
Many Flags require LRIT compliance prior to 31 December 2008 in order to comply with IMO Resolution MSC.211(81) regarding the timely establishment of the LRIT system. The majority of ships that will have to comply are already fitted with Inmarsat C equipment. However, many of these terminals will not meet the required conformance standard for a number of operational, physical and technical reasons. As a result, new equipment will need to be purchased and fitted. With this in mind, operators are advised to test their terminals as soon as possible.
Pole Star has a proven test and well developed test processes. We perform to the highest technical standards and practice an internal quality and service management following the model of ITIL (IT Infrastructure Library) which is based on ISO/IEC 20000.
